Tossed Salad Friday

~~ My son is in a contest to land a good job and launch his career. Will you please vote for him? — select SAM MINES. Thank you!

~~ Talk about a really bad typo. I wrote:

There's something so charming about putting together Easter baskets for kids.

~~ I went to the doctor for a minor bit of surgery, and we’re chatting about food, chemicals, pesticides, and GMOs. She was bemoaning the way people were seemingly developing IBS and other gastric related ailments at an alarming rate. Then she paused and said, “I really don’t know what’s happening.”

Sucking in my breath, I asked, “You mean about the food, right?” She laughed and said, “Oh, yes, yes, yes!” She then related how medical students are threatened within an inch of their careers should they dare say, “Uh-oh” while in surgery. I can see why.

~~ There was a book sitting by my night table for a long time. I don’t know why I didn’t pick it up, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down! The book was Goldberg Variations by Susan Isaacs, a very character-driven tale of loneliness, bitterness, humanity, and family. gV I truly enjoyed it and recommend it.

~~ The banker obviously trying to get in my good graces sent a combo Mets/Yanks magnetic schedule. How many people cotton to that mishmash of loyalties? Not me — I refuse to look at that pinstripes logo all season long.

~~ I’m in the dollar store buying a couple of items. Without judging, I am trying very hard to understand the type of party the woman before me will be throwing — she bought 43 bottles of Mountain Dew and 17 pairs of assorted sunglasses.

~~ The Kenyan college carnage, the tango with Iran, the water shortage in the west, and so many other horrible and world-shattering situations deserve my attention. Instead, I focused today on trifling things occurring within gazing distance of my navel. Thank you for your time despite my lack of an outward perspective.

If you’re celebrating, have a blessed Easter and/or a Zissen Pesach. If not, have a wonderful weekend! See you for baseball season!
