What’s in a Name?

The clients came to see me to sign contracts. They were accompanied by the cutest baby, so of course I asked, “What’s her name?”

I expected a one- or two-word answer, but I didn’t get it. I’ll summarize what her mom replied as best as I can:

“Her name is Daphne but it isn’t a family name. No, she is named after a neighbor of ours that we didn’t really think was that friendly, but after she made us toasted coconut bars and we told her how much we really, liked them, we became good friends. Well, my parents became friends with Daphne and her husband Fred, and after we had barbeques and all that neighbor stuff I started to call her Aunt Daphne and when our baby was born, something reminded me of her, though it isn’t her face and they have different hair, but anyway I insisted that we name her Daphne!”
