“So what?” he shot back. “It’s not like you have to go to temple or something. You can be late.”
I said, coolly, “I need to prepare a lot of food for our family Seders, so I’m taking the whole day off.”
“Haven’t you ever heard of a caterer?” he asked. “You’re a lawyer, so I bet you can afford it.”
I should have told him I was booked and avoided the discussion. Though he was right: I should have opted for a caterer.
