Tossed Salad Friday

~~ Are you really so hard up for a conversation starter that you ask, “How’s your year going so far?” on January 2?

~~ Is this fortune cookie cracking wise or wisecracking?
~~ I’ve learned that one of my favorite clients passed away New Year’s Eve. He was an extremely charming man who continued to engage my services for over 20 years. We seemingly had nothing in common (he loved guns and hated liberals, I am a liberal who hates guns) and yet we always had the most pleasant of encounters across my conference table. I’ll miss knowing that he was in the world, and sad that he’ll never call me again.

~~ Two weeks ago, I made a list of about a dozen things that I wanted to finalize by the end of 2013. I didn’t get to all of them, so did the rest automatically become my resolutions on January 1?

~~ The attorney wondered if I’d send him clients now that I was taking a law-break. I said that I wouldn’t be doing so, as we had different approaches to lawyering. When he expressed surprise, I asked if he recalled the time that he tried to pummel me (verbally) for 10 minutes over a contract he finally admitted he hadn’t yet read. He laughed and said, “Oh, right, right, right. I forgot, but I should have known that you wouldn’t.”

Enjoy your weekend! If you’re not shivering from the cold and/or shoveling snow, please know that I’m envious of you.
