When relating yesterday’s tale to a colleague, he laughed and said, “That’s why I won’t touch matrimonials with a 10-foot-pole. I did that kind of work for seven years, and let me tell you, every one of my clients was crazy!”

I agreed that people are not at their finest under the stresses of a split, but wasn’t “crazy” way too harsh?

“I don’t think so. Each and every one of them was just plain nuts,” he said. “I had to switch fields before I told a paying client that I didn’t blame the spouse one bit for divorcing her or his nutty ass.”

This guy now focuses on handling appeals in estate matters on referral from other attorneys. “It doesn’t matter how crazy the dead guy was,” he confessed. “I never had to talk to him!”
