New Year, New Passage

When I mentioned that I would not be around anymore this week starting Wednesday afternoon, a client expressed surprise at how early Rosh Hashanah is this year. I shared the old joke about the Jewish holidays always being too early or too late, and never on time, and she said, “At least you get it out of the way, right?”

That’s one way to look at it. Before the month is half-over, Jews will have embarked on a new year. We hit the “reset” button and get to start all over again! Yet I’m thinking that as long as I’m still dragging last year’s luggage, what’s the point of making this seem like a new voyage?

I know that kind of attitude will just leave me stuck in a holding pattern. If I’m going to allow the passage from 5773 to 5774 to be a happy and healthy one, I need to unpack, wash all the laundry, and let my open suitcase be filled with new trinkets and treasures.

I hope your excursion into the new year is a filled with love, prosperity, and fulfillment. Shanah tovah u’metukah!
