My Contribution to Marital Harmony

Whenever a conversation (or email) starts with “Am I responsible for….?” it usually means that my client wants to do something that runs counter to their moral compass or contract.

I usually get “Oh, yeah, that’s what I thought” once I explain the questioner’s obligations (or lack thereof).

When we were almost done with one of these seemingly predictable conversations, I deviated from the script and didn’t say goodbye. Instead, I asked the home seller:  “Just out of professional curiosity, if you knew this is what I was going to say, why did you ask?”

“So I can tell my wife that while I totally agreed with her, you said we couldn’t do it.”
