Tossed Salad Friday

~~ I was asked to do my civic duty and testify at a trial this week. On that day, as I mostly sat around in various parts of the court building, I lost about $1,000 worth of new business because I wasn’t available and the $800 compressor on my refrigerator failed. The expression “no good deed goes unpunished” applies right here, folks. [Though the prosecutors were very gracious in their thanks, I must say.]

~~ As I cooled my heels in a corridor while waiting to testify, I overheard three young-ish women discussing when you “have to give urine” and the various consequences of their pending charges of impaired driving. Their demeanor and patter could have just as easily been about music, politics, or social issues. None seemed agitated or overly concerned; I was shocked at how matter-of-fact the discussion was.

~~I also eavesdropped on an attorney who was full of promises to her client until he forked over what  looked like a very big wad of cash.  Then her tone became condescending, at one point saying, “You really want to piss off this judge? You think you’re gonna put one over on him?”

~~I’m not a fan of cold weather, and apparently neither was one court employee. She was wearing a turtleneck with two vests over it, one thermal-looking and the other mega-fuzzy. As I passed the time near her, she was humming what sounded like the theme to that old TV show, The Facts of Life. But I’m probably wrong about that.

~~In my experience, any conversation that contains the words “I just need to set up the back story for you” is guaranteed to be longer than you like and too difficult to follow.

~~ I went to Hawaii many years ago.  I’d sure like to return now.  Hawaii beach

Have a great weekend!
