Super Sandy Throttles Tri-State

It’s been a rough time around here; Sandy smacked us pretty hard.  I used the scheduling tool that this blog host introduced to post a few stories before the storm hit, and wonder of wonders, it actually worked! Kudos, LiveJournal.

As for today, I just wanted to share that I consider myself a very lucky person.  Regular readers know that the economy kicked my butt fairly fiercely, and there have been quite a few times over the past six years (quick—what’s 365 x 6?) that I have felt deflated. But not today!

We had some property damage at my house.  We suffered losses at the magazine, and my boat may be MIA for all that I know. However, my family is extremely fortunate, as none of us lost our lives or the roofs over our heads.  We weren’t separated from our canine companions and didn’t lose touch with loved ones. We weren’t evacuated from a hospital and we didn’t sleep in a wheelchair at a shelter. And we certainly didn’t see our worldly possessions go up in flames or slide out to sea.

And though my heart breaks for those who’ve been forever changed as well as those who have been horribly inconvenienced, I’m feeling a bit blessed. With all due respect, as I wouldn’t wish a speck of bad luck on all who are suffering, I’m the slightest bit optimistic that the unspeakably ghastly Sandy might be my slump-buster. That's because it kick-started my gratitude and taught me that it's time to leave the pity-party.
