Huh?

During an introductory phone call, I advised a home seller with an old fuel oil tank to not let the buyers’ home inspector do a pressure test to look for leaks.  (Such tests have been known to cause leaks while seeking to discover existing ones.)

A few days later, I received an agitated call from the seller’s spouse, informing me that the inspection resulted in a ripped-open oil tank seam necessitating an emergency replacement.  I sighed and wondered why they’d let the test take place, when I had specifically warned against it?

“Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?” she sputtered. “[Husband] said you told us to not let them do a fresh air test, but our tank is underground!”
