Tossed Salad Friday

~~ Have you ever spend big bucks on a party, only to have some drunken uncle make a shambles of your plans? That was Clint Eastwood at the RNC.  I kept saying to my husband, “Why won’t someone stop him?”

~~On the topic of the RNC, I’m glad Mitt came across as jovial and personable.  It’s easy to be both when you are filthy rich and have no uterus!

~~ I barely socialize, I don’t drink and I don’t smoke.  According to Gina Rinehart, I should be rolling in the dough! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/30/gina-rinehart-drinking-smoking_n_1843371.html?1346344467&ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009  Of course, I didn’t have rich parents to start me on the road to being a billionaire, either…

~~ I used to have a bumper sticker like this! I put it on the family car, and my dad got a lot of strange looks when driving. But he laughed it off, saying that it was “probably as true, or not, as any other bumper sticker.”

~~ I remember that my mom used to sing along to Tennessee Ernie Ford’s “Sixteen Tons,” and I thought it was just a melancholy song about a bygone era.  But boy, those lyrics really resonate now.

~~  I was conversing with someone the other day who was wondering how I could be such a passionate sports fan and yet have enough time for politics (plus work, I guess).  He said, “How do you stay up on pitching staffs and team rosters if you also follow the election?” I replied that following sports is easy.  Teams may eat up my stomach lining, destroy my heart muscles, and twist my pulmonary system, but following sports has never, ever diverted my brain away from anything vital. People who go to the movies can also follow politics, and I bet you can visit museums or take cruises and still be an informed citizen. So I wonder why sports fans are perceived as either/or types (I see you laughing, readers, and I resent it).

Have a good weekend! Thanks to those who labored to make this country strong and proud.

Let’s Go Mets!

Clint Eastwood's appearance shows what Repubs are about: rich old white men and those who hate anyone who isn't them.

I know that you have plenty of brain cells to spare, even if you did let sports use up a few. Enjoy the weekend!

Don't forget those among them (certainly far from all) who also distrust science and education.
