Tossed Salad Friday

~~ You know that expression that there’s no free lunch? I should have heeded that universally accepted advice recently. The free lunch I received resulted in a commitment of my time I can’t really spare, but it was either that or money, and I have less money than time!

~~ The passing of famous figures from my youth seems to be accelerating, which is understandable, but not acceptable.  Helen Gurley Brown was not one of my role models, but her drive, ambition, and vision were visible signs that many of the barriers erected through pure sexism were falling as fast as I could make my way into the workplace.

~~ Know what irks me? When someone presumes that my being married means that I have no name! Thankfully, it rarely occurs anymore, but an envelope arrived the other day where my husband was accorded his full name, plus a “Mr.” to boot, while I am just referred to as “& Mrs.” My identity is wrapped up in my name, and my history is as well. It upsets me that I am deemed just an honorific without a name.

~~I read a TeaOP talking point about all the “jobs lost” under the POTUS, which doesn’t acknowledge that the huge losses in public sector jobs outweighs recent private sector job growth.  Let’s slash taxes, quash stimulus, defeat budgets, trim government, squeal the Tea Baggers! And as we do that, forcing the government to cut jobs and services (one local town, Oyster Bay, is looking to slash another 100 jobs right now), let’s all scream that the President must be defeated because there are no jobs.

~~I was doing a stock photo search recently for “puppy,” and this was the first one that came up on the site. bill c I can’t think of a jokey or snide angle that would make this a deliberate tag. Can you? Maybe it’s just a case of someone seriously mis-tagging a photo, and I’m expending way too much effort on it entirely.

~~ My Grandma’s birthday would have been celebrated today. It would years of analysis and a book to explain this fierce and family-oriented woman, so I’ll just share with you one nugget of her wisdom: Beer makes you stupid.

Have a great weekend!

I agree about tea baggers
They say, "Let's cut out your entitlements, but by all means, keep mine!"

No Paul Ryan rant?

Re: I agree about tea baggers
I have so much to say about Paul Ryan, but I believe I'll reserve it for a bit.

Suffice it to say that as a financially struggling person who is also a woman, I'm quaking to think any of his policies would be implemented.

Was it an invitation?
Some people (like my aunts)use old-fashioned invitation manuals on how to address announcements and invitations. Though my wedding planner said, "Don't ever call anybody Mrs... learn their names and include them on the invitation."

Have a fun weekend!

Re: Was it an invitation?
Yes, it was. Your planner was correct, in my book. Someone who knows I've existed for decades shouldn't be calling me "Mrs." as my only name(and then expect me to be excited about attending).

Enjoy the weekend.
