The Law of Attraction

Yesterday’s blog reminded me of a closing many years ago, when my practice was a lot more prosperous and my physical attributes were slightly alluring.

I was settled into the rhythm of the closing when a woman walked into the closing room and asked if anyone had parked in the lot next to the building. “I did,” I said. “You should move the car,” she advised, “because they are blacktopping the other side and the grime is hard to get off.”

I thanked her and grabbed my keys. “I’ll move your car!” offered the older attorney. With a big wink, he said, “You can thank me later.”  As I started to protest (I would not thank him later) he waved me off, reached for my keys and asked, “What kind of car do you drive?”

I haltingly responded that my car was a blue Jaguar. Suddenly, every other man at the closing table jumped up, saying, “I’ll move it!” “No, I don’t mind!” “Let me!”

Men!
At least, I assume they were all men, as I'd never offer to move someone else's car. Think of the liability!

Re: Men!
Yes, they were all men. Two of them were lawyers, yet liability didn't seem to be on their minds at all.
