Use Your Imagination

A former client e-mailed me to ask if it was wise for her to “save money” by not hiring a lawyer when she buys a house in another state. “I know, obviously, you’re a lawyer but I trust you to tell me the truth,” she stated.

Here’s my reply:

Of course, I see the value in using a lawyer, but I know you are trying to save money. So the bottom line is, not hiring an attorney might cost you more than you will save!

How? Imagine the kind of room where we closed on your last house.  Now imagine walking into that room, knowing EVERYONE present is looking for money from you. There’s no one looking out for you to ensure you don’t get ripped off, or protecting your rights.

Some title or financing issue might be overlooked. Or someone may overcharge you just a bit, or fully fleece you, and you’ll never even know it.

Can you picture yourself being comfortable in that situation without the guidance of counsel?
