Just Call me ‘Smokey’

Last week I spoke at a Bar Association seminar about what an attorney needs to consider when representing a buyer. I shared how I approach potential conflicts of interest that may arise when a new deal arrives on my doorstep. With apologies to fire safety teachers, I call it “Stop, Drop or Stall.”

 

If a deal poses a conflict of interest for me, I stop the representation. If the deal appears wrong for a client, I advise her to drop it. If there’s an unanswered question (or just some nagging misgiving), I delay matters until the information is obtained. 

 It’s a simple formula that helps me prevent forest fires  firestorms disasters.
