Cloudy, With a Chance of Clarity

A potential client called me, as she was thinking about buying a home.  “What does an attorney do for a buyer?” she asked. When I elaborated, she said, “I didn’t know that.”

I advised her that she should investigate many things before contract, including having a structural home inspection and checking out the neighborhood, she said, “I didn’t know that.”

She asked me, “What are closing costs, anyway?” and when I elaborated, she said, “I didn’t know that.”

I wondered if she should wait to buy until she was more certain about things, and she assured me that she now felt comfortable because I would be her attorney. “I don’t know much, but you do!”

This woman is a weather forecaster, so keep that in mind the next time you hear that there’s only a slight chance of precipitation.
