“You’re Wrong, Wrong, Wrong”

I received a handful of e-mails from real estate agents on yesterday’s blog (today’s title was the subject line of one). I read and replied to all, but two of the refutations were noteworthy (and profanity-free).

1.  You’re way too suspicious! I only want to know info to help keep things on track. The more I know, the better chances we are going to get to closing.

2. If that agent can get 6%, that must mean the customer is willing to pay for very good service. I bet we agree on that! You won’t admit, I guess, that all attorneys provide basically the same service. So why not save $300 or more for the customer and get someone I know is easy to work with? Everyone comes out a winner!

My correspondents were trying to dispute my points about protecting one’s confidentiality and getting what you pay for when it comes to legal representation (see http://real-lawyer.livejournal.com/346377.html as well).  However, with all due respect, I’ll stick with my beliefs that you need quality representation before making perhaps the biggest investment of your life, and that you only want to parcel out your private info on a need-to-know basis.
