Secluded Means Excluded

I am always advising would-be buyers to check out their neighborhoods and locale thoroughly before making an offer on a house. What’s the zoning of a vacant lot? Are there any planned road widening or changes in flight paths to/from a regional airport?  Is the house in a cancer cluster, or near a toxic site? How far is the nearest emergency room, and is that hospital financially sound?

To those questions, and many more, I have a new one to add: Is the house on the same power grid as a main thoroughfare or important building (such as a school or hospital)? If so, electrical power is more likely to be restored to that area before an outlying spot.

Choose the scenic view, and perhaps you’ll sit in the dark longer than the residents who have a county road right outside their community.
