Techno Lockout

On Friday, I had a ton of things to do.  I needed to catch up (and clean up) my e-correspondence, supply paperwork to title copies, mail out deeds (those that had to be recorded, and ones that already were), and get the input of writers on a few Boating Times Long Island articles.

Mug of tea in hand and ready to go, I sat down to find that my phones and internet were non-existent. I couldn’t do anything at all (even printing out a stamp requires my computer to check with the mothership to ensure my account is in the black).

No calling, no scanning and attaching, no forwarding, no corresponding, and no stamping ensued for a very long time.

If technology is supposed to free us, how is it I have become a prisoner of my internet/phone provider?
