Deliver the Letter, the Slower the Better

A client of mine was surprised that a buyers’ attorney used regular snail mail to return contracts to me. “In this day and age, who does that?” he wondered.  I told him that I do, if a client comes in to sign and write a downpayment check out of an account that does not yet have sufficient funds.  I’d rather have the contracts take a slow journey to the seller’s counsel and arrive with cleared funds, rather than expeditiously plop a post-dated check on her desk. The outcome may be the same, but the perception is different.  In the first case, I look cheap or old-fashioned, while in the second, my clients appear shaky.
