Ice Ain’t Nice

This past Sunday, I drove by a real estate agent slipping and sliding while trying to climb a very high snow mound on a busy street corner that led to a residential neighborhood.  Judging by the “OPEN HOUSE” sign and balloons she was holding as she erratically scaled the big hill, I’m guessing she was trying to lure passers-by towards one of her listings.  I sympathized with her struggle, thinking how our Artic weather makes everything worse.

When I had occasion to speak to a real estate broker on Monday about how many different ways things could go wrong in this fragile market, the subject of snow of course came up.  I shared the story of the agent scaling the heights of Mount 25A with this woman, who sighed.

“Just in the last couple of weeks, I’ve had two agents twist their ankles, one has a butt so bruised from slipping on the ice that she can’t sit down, plus a customer broke her wrist trying to break up the ice on her front steps before a showing.  I’m not selling houses-- I’m running an infirmary!”
