He Was Made Of Snow, but the Children Know

As we shovel our way through our massive mounds of snow, I thought I’d retell a story I first shared in the winter of 2009:

When my daughter was young, we had a snowstorm the day before I had a closing.  I wondered aloud if the closing would be postponed because the snowdrifts were very high.  She asked if the buyers had kids, and learning that they did, urged me to go to the closing.

Why?  The buyers’ kids “probably want to make snowmen and it would be mean to make them wait.”

I certainly didn’t want to be mean, especially since my insightful child had focused on the essence of why people (still) want to buy houses: to make snowmen --and women-- they can call their own.

Happy birthday, Hayley!
