Thank a Veteran today if you can

Today is a day for recollection and thanks for the veterans who served our country, in times of peace and times of peril. My Dad was a veteran, and I'd give anything to be able to say "thanks" in person.

Today is also a day I also react in sorrow for the loss of a journalist I felt was not only telling a story, but telling the truth. I read this morning that before he passed, Ed Bradley managed a smile as his friend Jimmy Buffet told him that both the Knicks and the Democrats won. My condolences to his family, friends, and fans.

Today is lastly a day to cheer for Rutgers' University football team. I detest bandwagoneers, so I am content to sit on the sidelines and cheer for a team with a winning attitude and 2006 record to match, but almost more importantly, to root for fans with a history of supporting lost causes and lousy teams of the past.
