Can A Talking Head Be a Pompous Ass?

One talking head on a business news program was pronounced to be a “real estate analyst and market expert.”  The panel discussion centered on if, as a nation, we had generally reached the bottom in residential real estate, and if indications were that the market would rebound anytime in 2011.

I might be paraphrasing the head’s delusional and ridiculous answer slightly, but his response was “You’d have to assume that the market had been declining recently to ask if we’re close to the bottom.  From my analysis and unique way of analyzing trends, I think the signs of a real estate recovery have been moving upwards since the spring. 2010 has met my expectation for positivity.”

If I got out of bed every morning in 2010 and hoped that I didn’t have a heart attack, I guess a cardiac-healthy year met my “expectation for positivity.”  If I set out to work each and every day hoping that my selling clients find buyers, that my buying clients obtain mortgage commitments, and that I’d earn a decent living, I’d have to declare that this year fell way short of my modest hopes for 2010.
