Fluky, Not Spooky

Are you one of those people who say “There are no coincidences in life?” Do you see every chance overlap as something eerily predetermined to coincide?   If so, I’d like to know what you make of these occurrences:

A. I worked on two files, one a sale, and one a purchase, for about two months.  At the closing of the second deal (about one week after the first) it occurred to me that the property being purchased was really, really close to one that had just sold.  How close is close? Try the two end units of an attached townhouse (with six homes in all).  Everything went smoothly with both deals, but in all that time, the addresses never clicked together for me.

B. For a purchase deal, I reviewed the contract terms and negotiated clauses.  Before scheduling my client, I requested that the seller’s attorney send me the deed to the seller.  When the fax came over, I saw that I represented the seller of this same home when it last changed hands almost 20 years ago.

If the universe preordained these transactions to go through me, I’d say the universe should get on to solving bigger problems.  But it did remind me to pay attention to not just names, but addresses as well.
