Tossed Salad Friday

~~~Even when I could afford them, I was never really into most big-ticket extravagances (except for sports’ tickets and theater). But now that I’m so cash-strapped, I’m realizing what many, many others already know:  visiting the chiropractor or buying organic spinach, which I always took for granted, are really luxuries. I used to say “I can’t afford to get sick” because of demands on my time.  Now, I really, really can’t fall ill, as I don’t have the bucks to waste on an indulgence like Alka-Seltzer cold medicine.
~~~A client of mine is buying a home from one of those short sellers who falls into the category of I’ve been living rent-free for a long time but I need the buyer to kick in bucks to help me get out of this house.  The RE agent keeps asking my client to pay for things that are customarily a seller’s responsibility, because “after all, you’re buying a short sale.”  So what?  Last week I reminded my client that lenders don’t approve short sale applications unless the sales price is at market value, so the buyer isn’t getting any special deal.  That empowered her, so that when the another email came asking for the buyer to pay more to meet her sellers’ obligations, her retort was fantastic:  “I've already agreed to kick in [a lot of money] towards eradicating the sellers’ bad debt.  My humanitarian efforts ended there.  The zipper on my wallet is closed. Need I remind the other parties that keeping my wallet closed for many years is how I was able to save the money for this purchase in the first place?”

~~~ When I turned the avatar I use for Boating Times Long Island purple for the day on twitter, and tweeted about my support for standing up against LGBT bullying, I gained followers.  However, when I tweeted LET’S GO RANGERS! the other night in support of my favorite hockey team, a bunch of Evil Empire fans stopped following the magazine.  Does that mean that acceptance of sexual orientation and gender identity is now a less provocative topic than baseball passion? If so, I am totally on board with that!  I’ll be happy to defend my reasons for rooting for a team, if that means others don’t have to defend themselves because of who they love.
Have a great weekend.  The J!-E!-T!-S! are on a bye this weekend, so it’s just LET’S GO RANGERS!
What a world this is. The good guys get shafted and the creeps rake in the dough.
It sure looks that way from my perspective these days.
