Pro-Semitism

I met with clients who are selling their home, and have agreed to close between the 8th and 15th of the month of September. As their name held no hint that they might be Jewish, I thought it best to broach with them, in July, that I would be unable to close on their behalf on the 8th, 9th, or 10th of September.  The 11th & 12th were weekend days, and then I said it would be hard for me to carve out time on the 13th, inasmuch as it would be my first day back in five days.  Sorry, but that left just the14th or 15th to close in their promised window.

The couple did simultaneous fist pumps, and I truly thought both considered jumping across the table to kiss me!  Seems they had promised to close that week after a lot of pressure from their RE agent, but really, really wanted to stay in the house as long as possible--definitely past the weekend.  However, they'd also been conflicted about being perceived as hard-hearted to the buyer’s expressed need to get into the house as close to the beginning of the school year as possible.

Now they find out that despite crossing their fingers when they made the promise, they weren’t the bad guys.  I would be the heavy!  Whatever pressure came their way, the sellers could truthfully say:  “We can’t close that early; our lawyer just isn’t available.”
