A Man Walks Into A Bar…

A few years back, a former client called me, suffering from a hangover and in great distress.  Seems he spent the evening before in a bar and somehow began beer-infused negotiations with another patron about buying his house.  When the evening ended, this guy found his enthusiasm for the deal had vanished.  But he had given the seller his home and cell numbers and “shook on the price.” Panicked, he needed to know: was he liable to buy the house even if he was “slightly” soused?

I reassured him that his state of intoxication would never even come into question, as NYS law requires all real estate transactions to be in writing and signed by the party to be charged.  So if there was no signed document, he was OK.

I wonder if legal relief made his hangover more bearable?

Happy birthday, Willie Mays!

Re: Willie Mays?
Yes--my Mom was a huge Willie Mays fan. Every May 6th she remarked that it was his birthday, and I follow in her memory.

He's never wished me a happy birthday back, but that's OK. I guess.
