Take Your House Offer & Shove It

A client of mine, trying to sell his house, had a verbal altercation with a potential buyer this past weekend.

Apparently, the buyer is from the school of I’ll run down your house so much you’ll take a lot less, while the seller is from the school of  this house is worth a lot more than you think it is.

As my client related, the buyer complained about the quality of the kitchen floor, the age of the roof, the bathroom tiles, and the wall colors of each bedroom as he moved from room to room.  When the buyer said something like “This house is so much work, I’ll give you $100,000 less than you’re asking,” the seller let him know, loudly and explicitly, where and how far the offending buyer could stick his offer.

Then the seller threw him out of the house.

When his wife told the husband-seller that he might be “too sensitive” and they should hire a real estate agent, he said he’d call me to discuss it.

I was as diplomatic as possible when I suggested that they immediately hire someone to represent them in all future dealings with the buying public.

Maybe there’s a future for me in the State Department?

P.S. Happy birthday, Gabby!
