~~~Does anyone else see shades of Bush v. Gore in yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling? Conservatives love to decry “activist judges” when such judges rule that women have reproductive freedom and gays have constitutional protections. But whoa! Taking a simple case and broadening it to the point where citizens have become drowned out by corporations is beyond activism, in my opinion. And weren’t Americans feeling disenfranchised and powerless enough before this ruling?
~~~Yay! Cindy McCain is in an ad supporting equal marriage protection for all.
~~~This past Tuesday, I felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders for a few hours. My son, my spouse, and I went into NYC to set up our booth at the NY Boat Show. We then ate at a favorite MSG area restaurant and went to the NY Rangers game. I was in heaven! The Rangers not only won, but scored eight times--I have never sung the “Goal!” song more than seven times before, and lately two choruses was a lot. However, the win was not as important as the return to my old lifestyle for a few hours. This depressing recession has cut me to a very spartan lifestyle, and though I can handle most of it (vegans love rice & beans, and I eschewed many material things even when I could afford them), the loss of attending theater and sporting events has really put a hole in my enjoyment of life. Boo-hoo to that when compared to the woes of Haitians or cancer patients, I know, but in my life, nothing outside of my family made me happier than seeing live performances in arenas and on stages. I miss it.
~~~Thanks for your patience in waiting for the best. I so want to use the phrase fin de siècle to describe the ending of the Jets era spanning January 13, 1969 to December 31, 2009, but I can see where that would be a tad over-dramatic and certainly premature. Being a long-suffering fan, I am loath to give any of my teams any sort of jinx by presupposing any positive outcome.
So instead I will wish you a good weekend, and repeat what I have said here, there, and everywhere for decades and decades, albeit with a lighter step and less misguided enthusiasm than in a very, very, very long time:
J!-E!-T!-S!--JETS! JETS! JETS!
