Why Would Anyone Eat The Holiday Mascot?

We don’t carve up Santa Claus for Christmas dinner, and we don’t barbeque George Washington on the 4th of July. And on Valentine’s Day, Cupid is not on the menu. So why is the carcass of a turkey the centerpiece of so many Thanksgiving tables?

I have had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of quite a few turkeys rescued from slaughterhouses. They were delightful creatures; I was happy I played a teensy part in helping them to live out their days in safety and serenity.

I don’t need to lecture anyone on the merits of eating cruelty-free. I am not about proselytizing; I get no (egg-free) brownie points for converting anyone to a guilt free and healthier life. But if you have the slightest curiosity about reasons to forego eating turkeys, here’s a site to visit: http://www.goveg.com/f-top10turkeys.asp

And if you want to adopt a turkey, here’s where I always go: http://www.adoptaturkey.org/aat/adopt/sponsor.html

Namaste.

You are right! Don't preach! Just be!

I didn't know about "adopting" a turkey and will be happy to do this.

That's my philosophy. Live your life in the best way you can.
