Show Me The Money!

I’m not any happier about my Thursday into Friday closing, but I can at least share my thoughts and tell you the story without stringing together any profanities.

My clients were selling their home.  They came to Thursday’s closing with their car packed, their belongings already on the road, and their Friday reservations made for the “auto-train” in Virginia to take them to Florida.  This was not an overly optimistic plans based on a Thursday at Noon closing, confirmed multiple times by buyers’ attorney.

Noon passed without the buyers, who rudely showed up almost 30 minutes late (little did we know that would be the least of our irritations).  Papers were signed when they showed, but by 2 PM the lender’s attorney, who had barely showed her face in the room despite our closing in her offices, starting chirping back and forth with her secretary how there was no money yet.  Excuses started to flow about inability to confirm the paid status of the buyers’ homeowner’s policy, then inept handling of the file by the mortgage broker, followed by one BS line after another stretching towards 5 PM about delays in the wiring/certification of monies process.

My clients were panicky and my normally low blood pressure was rapidly escalating for various reasons.

More tomorrow…

Re: More tomorrow…
I couldn't relive the experience all at once, so I'll see how much I can stand to relate tomorrow.
