Guilty of Counting Chickens

I never, ever count on anything until it happens when it comes to my law practice.  I’ve experienced way too many “who would believe that?” moments to relax my guard and consider a fee paid until I actually deposited the check.

But this current state of the market and the paucity of recent paychecks did cause me to think ahead, and the universe reminded me fairly swiftly just how dumb a move that was.

My Amex bill was due and so was the payment for my car.  But never fear, I had a contract signing booked and confirmed with very eager clients.  My constant companion worry  took a break from my consciousness for a day or so.  Then --POW!!!-- my clients had to cancel as she was taken ill.

Of course my immediate and utmost concern is always for someone’s health.  But after that, my bills have to be paid and my family needs to be fed.  So worry and her sister anxiety have both returned to sit on my mind and jump up and down in my stomach, as my clients have yet to call and reschedule.

Yes, I know there’s at least two morals here.  But I am positive you, my readers, are smart enough to figure them out yourselves.
