While eating lunch yesterday, I read an article entitled “Chinese property hunters to raid US” in the Financial Times. More than half-way through this recital of a Chinese real estate website’s organization of a trip for investors to view properties in California and Nevada, these words caused my lunch to do a few somersaults in my stomach: Property professionals say there is considerable interest among wealthy Chinese, who often hold a high proportion of assets in property, in investing abroad.
“The US market absolutely terrifies me,” said one Shanghai-based real estate executive. “However, there are plenty of people here who think this a great time for bottom-fishing.”
