Tossed Salad Friday

~~ In Dementia-ville there is a lot of noise from the aide but little from the patient. Apparently, the aide knows someone who has “a stupid stupid stupid family” that “should all be put into stupid jail.”

~~ One woman says, “It’s a really terrible, tedious job.” The other replies, “Sounds like a perfect job for a teenager!”

~~ This made me smile: One week ago, a friend buys a pharmaceutical to improve her memory. After eight days of taking it, she’s fairly certain she’s been ingesting said vitamins for two weeks.

~~ I’m sure it’s just me, but I can’t figure out why a mortgage rep from a bank would spend the money on sending out recipe calendars to solicit referrals.
Forget that he bought an old list (I dropped out of that business almost four years ago) and he sent dead creature recipes to a vegan, but for the life of me I can’t imagine saying to a client, “Let’s entrust the biggest purchase of your life thus far to a guy I know nothing about except that he sent me some recipes in the mail.”

~~ This past Saturday I decided to get out of my yoga comfort zone and participate in an event I saw advertised in the NY Times. As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, each Bloomingdales held a mass class before the store opened. The donation was $10.00 to two foundations doing great work against this evil disease, and in return, participants were promised some freebies.

When we arrived, we were each given a free pink mat, a strap, and a goodie bag generously stocked with beauty products, food bars, and flavored water. The session was taught by a yoga entrepreneur who launched right into a moderately difficult and fast-moving class, followed by a pleasant meditation. Thanks, Bloomies. What a win-win-win!

~~ A few months ago, I wrote about the benefits of float therapy http://boatingtimesli.com/NY/2017/06/01/floatforwellness/. I didn’t have a chance to try it until this week, and WOW! At first, I was bored. I sat up, thinking, what do I do for 90 minutes? Is that all there is? Then I reminded myself that I have meditative tools in my arsenal, and so off I went. I focused, then drifted, and then it was over! I felt lighter and calmer than I have in a long time.

~~ On International Mental Health Day a self-obsessed mental case lashed out at me via social media for not being peppy and positive enough for her Facebook page. It came out of left field and was ludicrous, so I laughed. But I saw how quickly nut jobs can turn ugly, so I guess I’m lucky this cheap-looking jewelry designer (in both senses) only demanded I get psychiatric intervention in order to spare the world my miserable self.

~~ Is it merely coincidence that I discovered a new wrinkle in the mirror just as Stevie Nicks was singing “Landslide” on the radio?
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older, too…

~~ If you’re not going to read Ivana tRump’s book (I won’t be) then I suggest you read Gail Collin’s column on it: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/12/opinion/ivana-ivanka-trump-book.html
