Tossed Salad Friday

~~ Today’s the day where those of a certain age need no other frame of reference when someone states where and when, so:  I was in second grade when the announcement came over the loudspeaker.  How about you?

~~ Kevin Ollie, the UConn men’s basketball coach, was being interviewed on the radio.  He said that he coaches his student-athletes to remember, “Talent is what gets you there and character is what keeps you there.” I love that!

~~ My cyber-friend Brian posted this holiday photo on Facebook:

And here’s the discussion that followed:

~~ Last week, I wrote about the issue of socks or no-socks, and a reader sent me an email on the subject: I hate socks, so I never wear them. But I won’t walk barefoot anywhere, so no amount of coaxing by a host will get me to take off my shoes. It’s only happened twice, and they’ve had the good sense to drop it. C’mon, friendship vs. flooring? Doesn’t friendship always win? I sure hope it does, but I’m no authority, as I sleep with dogs.

~~ Twice in one day, I heard people mispronounce frustrated as “fus-trated.” The next day, I listened to a post-game interview in which one of the Knicks said he was “seriously fus-trated.” Has the word suddenly become hard to pronounce, like nuclear?

Have a great weekend!
J!-E!-T!-S! JETS! JETS! JETS!
LET’S GO RANGERS!
GO, NY KNICKS, GO!

I was in second grade and my teacher put her head on her desk and sobbed.

It was the first time I'd seen so many adults crying.
