The Forgotten Ones

A client who’s been trying to sell her house for over one year called me to touch base and see if I had any different ideas for her.

“I hate hearing how the market’s come back,” she said. “There are a couple dozen houses for sale in my neighborhood and all the buyers do is make lower and lower offers.”

Her house is priced in the $600k range, and like the rest of the development, it’s an oversized house on an undersized lot in a spot far from where the trains run yet not far enough to be considered a desirable East End location.

We chatted about a few ideas, but as long as the few buyers who can afford her price range and don’t mind the commute are using all the other listed homes as leverage, there’s not a lot of hope I can offer her.

She sighed and said, “I’m tempted to call the papers and the TV stations and tell them to check with me before they deliver any more good news. They can’t forget about places like my neighborhood when they say everything’s rosy.”
