She’s Having a Heat Wave

The real estate agent called me to see if I could “talk some sense” into my client. It seems the homeowner keeps the thermostat cranked to 85 degrees, making it most uncomfortable for prospective buyers. I wondered if the seller was leaving before showings, giving the agent a chance to cool things off?  No, I was advised, she stays right at the kitchen table and luxuriates while buyers can’t wait to escape.

I advised the agent that the topic really wasn’t in my area of expertise, but then I reluctantly agreed to take it up with my client. I called and brought up the need to make a home seem warm and inviting, not overheated and unpleasant. The homeowner laughed, knowing the agent had put me up to this.

“Look, I like to keep my house toasty,” said the seller. “I live there, and I don’t want to knit a sweater every time someone comes over.”

OK, then. That’s why I should always stick to what I know.
