It’s 1989 All Over Again

When a new deal came in, I called the buyer’s attorney’s office for some information.

The answer to “What’s your address?” was freely given, but the woman answering the phone clammed up at requests for the e-mail address and fax number. “We don’t routinely give that out,” she explained.

Really? Many attorneys unreservedly share that info, and even have it on their voicemail message. Heck, the Bar Association Directory has a book liberally sprinkled with these details (I checked: he’s not listed).  After some bad-mannered grumbling on my part about needing to get the contract to them some way other than carrier pigeon or Pony Express, the assistant got on her high horse.

“We’ll make sure you get whatever communication information Mr. [20th-Century] wants me to share,” she neighed. “I already told you we just don’t give the fax line and email out to everyone.”
