Brainless Buyer

I heard a story about a potential buyer who asked a seller if he would be “willing to lower the price if he paid cash.”

The seller said he’d be happy to drop the sales price a bit if the buyer didn’t need a mortgage, but as he thought the house was properly priced for the market, he wouldn’t come down too much.

The buyer said the seller misunderstood him. “I mean cash, as in CASH MONEY, let’s not tell anybody about the sale cash. You drop the price by 100 K and no one’s the wiser.”

What’s funniest, says the real estate agent recounting the yarn, isn’t the buyer’s total lack of knowledge about the disclosure paperwork and recording of the deed, making a no-one’s-the-wiser deal impossible. What will make you laugh (though I grimaced) is the buyer’s blunder in offering the secretive deal to a seller who is… an IRS employee!
