Are Business Cards Passé?

I haven’t been asked for a business card in a very long time.  Clients take them off the conference room table once in a while, but the obligatory exchange of cards to start or conclude a closing hasn’t occurred in years. So I appreciated hearing this recent snippet of conversation between two attorneys before a seminar:

Blonde lawyer: The guy asked for a bunch of my business cards to pass out, and I was embarrassed to say that I don’t carry them anymore.

Bald lawyer: I don’t either. I told someone just the other day, “The good Lord invented the internet and the smart phone so that I don’t have to pay a print shop for anything ever again.”
