We Spied With Our Very Own Eyes

Though there’s no possibility of a real vacation, I’ve decided to take a few blog-cations this summer. This week, I’m repeating some pool-related blogs from the past:

Ever since Google Earth and other street and satellite mapping technologies were readily accessible, I’ve found them a useful tool for buyers to get a good look at the property they are buying.

Recently, as usual, I emailed the buyers a copy of the municipal certificates and the survey provided by the sellers’ attorney, and asked them to compare the documents to what they’ve seen at the house.  I also suggested they check out the home, property, and neighborhood from the online angles to make sure there aren’t any deviations (or surprises).

Soon, I received a terse follow-up: We did as you instructed. We won’t be buying the house.

Curious, I called to ask why. It seems that on the summer day an online mapping photo was snapped from above, the neighbors on one side had “a bunch” of teenage girls sunning themselves, poolside, on the large deck.  My clients have a 15-year-old son, and as both parents work long hours, they decided, “This house might not be the best house.”

Sure, you can laugh. But my bank account doesn’t think this is one bit amusing!
