The Grass is Rarely Greener

A colleague read my recent car-centric blogs and e-mailed me a story worth sharing:

You think your closing/car stories are stressful? Try wearing my seatbelt!  I’ve had flats and run out of gas, but really, the worst happened on a day where I had a horribly over-booked day of closings. If nothing went wrong, I had 15 minutes to get from my second closing to my third (yes this was back in the boom times).

I was on track when I left the building, but I didn’t see my car. I walked back and forth a few times, pretty positive I was in the right area.  Finally it dawned on me that my car was stolen!

The cops didn’t show up for 45 minutes, because it wasn’t an emergency. I had to take a car service to the next closing, where everyone seemed furious with me, even though I explained how my Mazda was stolen.

Here’s how that day shredded my checkbook: $500 insurance deductible plus $900 towards a newer model car, $80 for the limo going (including tip), and a nasty remark from my clients about “overpaying” for my services as they handed me $750 at the end of the closing.
