Tossed Salad Friday

~~Something has changed in the local real estate market these past few weeks. Since the weather hit 60+ degrees, sellers have been saying “no” and pushing back. I love a fair market, rather than one that’s lop-sided either way, but that’s not what this feels like.  It appears sellers are adopting attitudes towards buyers that convey, “You won’t rip me off. Go lowball someone else.”  My gut is telling me that this won’t turn out so well for the majority of the suddenly-cocky-sellers.

~~As I prepared this year’s version of the Passover Haggadah (an explanation of the seder’s symbolism and a retelling of the Passover story) I had occasion to type the word “Afikomen”(“what comes after” a/k/a dessert). My spell-check objected to this word, and wanted me to substitute the word “Aikman” in its place. A Cowboy at my seder? I don’t think so!

~~An acquaintance was yammering on about how there was no time to do all the things she had to do before Passover, like get a manicure, shop for wine, and “making sure the florist saves me my favorite shade of ranunculus.” [I had to look up the spelling, though I knew it was a flower.] “How about you?” she wondered. “What are you too busy to do?” My answer was short, as was my time: “Breathe.”

~~As long-time readers know, I used to be a person of means (not in the Russian oligarch or Mitt Romney aren, but still able to afford all that I needed). A Passover dinner for about 25 people would strike no fear into me, because my husband and I would hire a house cleaner, a caterer, and a landscaper to assist us. Now, two need to do the work of six or seven people. I’m not complaining, mind you, but I am certainly nostalgic. And absolutely petrified about pulling off a dinner without enough plates!

~~I’m a blonde by DNA and a redhead by choice, so I wasn’t offended when someone asked me if red was my “real hair color.” However, the man I was standing alongside thought the question “very rude.” He said, “It’s quite rare for anyone to ask a man that question, so why should it be OK to ask a woman?” He made a fair point, though I still wasn’t insulted. Would you be?

Have a great weekend! Zissen Pesach, Happy Easter! Let’s all remember that no matter where we come from, we should all be striving for the same goals. Speaking of goals, who’s #1? The Rangers!

LET’S GO RANGERS!

GO, NY KNICKS, GO!

LET’S GO METS!
